Sting Rays and Rum Punch – Birthday Celebration Grand Cayman Style

I scooped my honey away to celebrate his birthday in lovely Grand Cayman. We spent a few days there being warmed by the sun, eating (often), drinking a wee too much rum, and being tickled by sting rays. Just want every birthday needs. Yes?

Our home base was the Marriott Resort Grand Cayman conveniently located on West Bay Road in the Seven Mile Beach area. It has a small footprint but very lovely.

The Marriott Resort Grand Cayman has several options for dining. A bit pricey but what isn’t pricey in Grand Cayman. We were pretty pleased with all the temptations. Anchor & Den is everything you need. Breakfast lunch, dinner and all things in between. It offers a Creperie Station, Juice Bar, Gelato Stand and Raw and Ceviche Bar. If you don’t want to leave the property they pretty much have you covered.

Veranda Restaurant allows you to dine al fresco with beautiful ocean views and the sound of the waves accompanying your meal.

Just across the street from the Marriott is Peppers Smokehouse.  We had to partake in a couple of the ‘overproof’ rum cocktails, whole smoked snapper, and live band in the evening. Fair warning – the Jamaica Me Crazy drink creeps up on you slowly. Dance it off. Just dance it off!

Of course the hotel beaches can be a bit crowded so we wandered off to as many of the public beaches as possible. We found them to be relaxing and often empty. Perfect.

After beach hopping we tried some of the local cuisine and fish houses around the island. Good eats all around.

If you are in Georgetown make your way straight to Da Fish Shack.  My husband enjoyed it so much that we came back for more. Beautiful views, great drinks and even better food. They take great pride in the freshness of their fish. The slogan goes, Any Fresher and You’d Have to Slap Us! A winner.

Just to keep things interesting we took an excursion to Sting Ray City. Um, a little unnerving at first but worth every high pitched squeal. By the end of the adventure we were all buddies. Even kissed one goodbye!

We wrapped up our lovely time in Grand Cayman with a sunset catamaran dinner cruise with Red Sail Tours. What a lovely experience. The was a perfect breeze and Caribbean soundtrack hypnotizing us during the sail. The crew and our dinner companions were all awesome and added a great vibe to our evening.

Our Austrian captain was hilarious and his crew was very attentive.
